At the Highest Point
The Christ the King Chapel will proudly stand at the highest point of our campus—visible for miles and serving as the outward expression of our role as the standard for fidelity and authentic liberal arts education with Christ at the center of all we do.
Beauty and Tradition
The interior of the chapel will feature an elegant high altar at the center of a traditional cruciform structure. Above the altar will sit a commanding Gothic tower . The Chapel will be a concrete symbol of the centrality of faith in the Christendom educational experience.
A Spiritual Home
Behind the high altar will rest Our Lady’s Chapel, a location for quiet intimate prayer. The beautiful and historic stained-glass windows and stations of the cross from the old chapel will be moved, creating an instant sense of familiarity for all in our community who have made the Christ the King Chapel a fulcrum in their spiritual life.
Rising out of the Valley
This is the most ambitious building project we have ever undertaken. The new bell tower and spires will rise out of the valley along the shores of the Shenandoah River on our campus. The Chapel will be visible from I-66, serving as a symbol of hope and beauty to all who travel the major interstate.
Enhancing Community Buildings
The advent of the new Christ the King Chapel will enable us to preserve the beauty of the old chapel by converting it into a center for our community’s vibrant Catholic culture. Finally, the St. Lawrence Commons will be upgraded and expanded into a permanent dining hall, featuring an upgraded pedestrian piazza.
A Visible Sign
The Chapel will visually reinforce Christendom’s connection to the universal Church. By more than doubling the size of the current chapel’s seating capacity, the new chapel will accommodate our growing student body, faculty, and family of alumni, allowing our community to come together in prayer.
There are a limited number of dedication opportunities within Christ the King Chapel. Through your gift, you are linked with the traditions and future of Christendom College and its Chapel in perpetuity.
“The unity of a Gothic cathedral, as we know, is not the static unity of a classical temple, but the unity born of the dynamic tension of diverse forces which impel the architecture upward, pointing it to heaven. Here, too, we see a symbol of the Church’s unity, which is the unity – as Saint Paul has told us – of a living body composed of many different members, each with its own role and purpose.
So let us lift our gaze upward! And with great humility and confidence, let us ask the Spirit to enable us each day to grow in the holiness that will make us living stones in the temple which he is even now raising in the midst of our world.”
– Pope Benedict XVI
